In 1996, while visiting Peru, a realization was made. Choosing to leave the corporate world behind, we
pursued a dream. Nestled in the seat of the ancient mysteries of the Nazca Lines, and among the humble people
of the Nazca region of Peru, we were inspired to create the brand name "Sweet Nazcas",
sweet onions from Peru, to honor the ancient Nazca Culture and the nearby Nazca Lines.
In the fall of 1999 our dream became a reality, as our team produced the first shipments of
onions from the Nazca area. The plump and juicy sweet onions were destined for the scrutiny of
discriminating produce buyers, housewives, chefs and backyard barbeque experts throughout the United
States and Texas.
The Nazca Lines, created 1,500 years ago, are geoglyphs etched in the arid Nazca Plain and appear as
geometric shapes and lines (some are miles long), flowers, giant birds, a monkey and a spider. It is
assumed that the Nazca people could not see the lines from ground level, heightening the mystery as to
their precision and symmetrical design (they can best be seen from air). The value of the Nazca Lines
stems from their significance to the ancient history of our planet, and their deeply spiritual meaning
to both ancient and modern cultures...The mystery continues!
In the spirit of the Nazca Lines, our mission is to build a cultural and economic bridge between this
region of Peru and the US by 1) Providing opposite-season (when not available in US) healthy and
natural foods to customers, 2) Fusing the age old industry of agriculture with the modern world and 3)
Creating an opportunity to bring prosperity to people who have little, meanwhile providing quality
products to consumers in the US. |
